Smart Band Explodes On User's Wrist Leaving Third-Degree Burns
We have witnessed many cases of smartphone explosion, and now it seems it not limited to smartphones. It has been reported that a man from Iowa, US went through a traumatized situation when the fitness tracker on his wrist started heating up and exploded in the middle of the night.
The victim name is Ethan Landers, who was wearing an expensive smart band from the popular fitness tracker maker Fitbit. Here are the details:
Google recently acquired the fitness tracker brand, and the company has also addressed the incident. "The health and safety of our customers is our top priority, and we take Mr Landers' report very seriously. We have spoken with Mr Landers and are actively investigating this issue," The Sun quoted Fitbit spokesperson as saying.
Landers explained that he was sleeping when he felt that the smart band is burning and he can see smoke emerging from the band.
"I quickly realised my Fitbit was burning up, so I tried frantically to get it off," Ethan wrote in a post shared to Facebook last month.
"With a few failed attempts, I jumped out of bed and turned the light on where my wife was able to unlatch the band on my Fitbit. It felt like it melted through my arm. There was smoke coming out of the Fitbit battery and our bedroom smelled like an electrical fire," he added.
After getting rid of the smart band, Ethan consulted a nurse who suggested him to visit the hospital because the wound was white and it was started blistering. When he was sent to the clinic, he was informed that it was a third-degree burn.
Ethan posted detailed information on his Facebook post explaining what happened to him, and his post was shared by more than 4000 users on Facebook. Let's see what Google and Fitbit have to do about the incident and loss.
