Apple Watch Series 9 to Feature New A15-Based Chip for Enhanced Performance

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed that the Apple Watch Series 9, set to release in the near future, will be equipped with a new processor based on the A15 chip that is currently being used in the latest iPhone 13 models. This information was shared by Gurman on the Discord channel for his Power On newsletter subscribers.

Apple Watch Series 9 Chip Will Be a "New Processor"

Gurman affirms that the Series 9 chip will not just be a rebranding of the prior-generation chip, but rather a "new processor." When asked about the possibility of the chip being based on the A15 chip, he stated his belief that it would be.

The S8 chip used in the Apple Watch Series 8 is essentially the same as the S6 chip used in the Apple Watch Series 6, and with no speed improvements, it is now two years old. Therefore, it is a welcome move that Apple is finally boosting the performance of the upcoming Series 9 smartwatch with a new chip.

By using the A15 technology in the new chip, the ‌Apple Watch Series 9‌ could see improvements in speed and efficiency, resulting in faster load times and better battery life. This could also help power some of the new features that Apple plans to introduce in watchOS 10, with a focus on a new widget system.
