Google Podcasts to Shut Down Globally in June 2024: Here's How to Transfer Your Podcasts to YouTube Music
Google Podcasts is saying goodbye! Google announced a global shutdown of its dedicated podcast app by June 2024. This follows the app's closure in the U.S. earlier this year. The goal? To simplify how you listen to audio content by moving everything to YouTube Music.
Farewell Google Podcasts, But When Exactly?
The shutdown dates vary depending on your location:
- Outside the U.S.: You can enjoy Google Podcasts until mid-to-late June 2024. Crucially, you have until July 29, 2024, to migrate your podcast data (subscriptions, playlists, etc.) to a new platform.
- U.S.: Google Podcasts shut down entirely on April 2, 2024.

Why the Big Switch?
Google's strategy is to position YouTube Music as the central hub for all your audio needs. A dedicated "Podcasts" section within YouTube Music's Explore tab will curate a wide selection of popular podcasts across various genres, taking inspiration from your YouTube viewing history for personalized recommendations.
The goal is to provide a seamless platform where users can access both music and their favorite podcasts in one convenient location. As the deadline approaches, Google encourages users to migrate their data to ensure uninterrupted access to their podcast library.
Migrating Your Podcast Data Seamlessly
No need to fret about losing track of your favorite shows! Google provides a smooth transition process. Look for the "Export Subscriptions" feature within the Google Podcasts app. This feature will lead you to an export interface where you can choose your preferred destination: YouTube Music for a unified experience or a third-party app you already use. Simply follow the on-screen prompts to complete the migration.
