Netflix Likely Tests Long-Term Subscription Plans With Up To 50% Discount In India
Netflix, one of the popular video streaming service is used by millions of people across the world. In India, it is among the most expensive services. While the high subscription cost remains to be a challenge in increasing the number of users, the company seems to have come up with new long-term plans.
Netflix Tests Long-Term Plans
As per a report by Gadgets 360, Netflix is testing long-term subscription plans in India. What's interesting is that India is said to be the first market for the service to test the same. As of now, it is being tested on three months, six months, and an annual basis along with attractive discounts of up to 50% as compared to the existing monthly plans.
The report notes that subscribers who opt for the long-term subscription plans on Netflix will get discounts on Mobile, Basic, Standard, and Premium plans. Currently, it is limited only to select users and is meant for both mobile and web users. Recently, Netflix was in the headlines for allegedly testing the ability to download recommended content automatically.
Recently, Netflix came up with mobile subscription plans letting users enjoy Netflix for Rs. 199 per month on their mobile. In addition to the report, it cites a Twitter user who has spotted the long-term subscription plans on Netflix.
How Will It Be Beneficial
Talking about discounts, the regular Netflix Premium subscription for three months is priced at Rs. 2,397 but the long-term plan (for 3 months) is available at a 20% discount at Rs. 1,919. Likewise, the service will be priced at Rs. 4,794 for six months but with the long-term subscription plan offering a 30% discount, it will cost Rs. 3,359.
Furthermore, the annual plan will be available for Rs. 4,799, which is after getting a 50% discount on the regular Premium subscription for 12 months priced at Rs. 9,588 (Rs. 799 per month).
What We Think
The report mentions that long-term Netflix plans are under pilot testing. So, it will not be available for all users. And, there is no confirmation if the same will be rolled out to all Netflix subscribers. With the new long-term plans and attractive discounts, the video streaming service can retain subscribers for a longer time. And, it will be on par with rivals such as Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, etc. offering annual subscription plans.
