Snapchat is now adding a new Stories feature in its app. As such the new feature will allow users to share public stories with friends and family outside of the app. Previously rumors about a similar feature dubbed as "Stories Anywhere" were doing rounds on the internet for quite some time. Well, now the developers behind the app are adding a share button to Stories in the Discover section with a goal of making 'Stories' available outside the app for the first time and kick-starting the app's stagnant user growth.

Snapchat will soon let users share Stories on other social media apps

In any case, the company has said that with the new update sharing will be initially available for three types of Stories - Official Stories, Search Stories, and Our Stories. Snapchat users will be able to press and hold on the tiles in Discover feature to share Official Stories, Our Stories and Search Stories via a shareable link. Further, these links will then be redirected and opened through a media player that will be hosted on Snap's website.

With the new feature, users should be able to send some videos and photos via text, email, instant message, or share Stories on pretty much any chat or social platforms like Twitter or Facebook that supports the links.

While it will give users the added functionality, Snapchat has stated, "Our Stories and Search Stories will be available on the website for 30 days, while Official Stories will disappear after 24 hours." Interestingly, the company has also added that monetization of the stories is also being considered.

Currently, the new feature is live for users in Australia and Canada. The Android and iOS versions of the Snapchat app in these regions have already been updated to new versions with a drastic redesign that was teased last November. The Snapchat app was also revamped after complaints that it was difficult to use. However, the update and the new feature should come to other users around the globe in the coming weeks.

The company has been working extensively to bring in new features to attract new users as well as deliver a better experience to the existing users. Further other social media apps like Instagram and Facebook give a tough competition to Snapchat. So with new features, the company is aiming to increase the time users spend on the app.

Meanwhile, Snapchat has reported lower-than-expected 178 million daily active users in the third quarter ended September 30, 2017. Going into 2018 it will try to stay relevant among the users. We should see some more new features in the coming months.
