WhatsApp Beta for Android gets QR code payments feature
WhatsApp Payments gets this much-awaited feature. But this is available only for the Android beta users for now.
WhatsApp users received the UPI payment feature, which was highly-anticipated by users in February. Now, the latest Android beta version of WhatsApp has received another much-awaited feature, which is the QR Code payments option. As the name indicates, this feature will let you make payments just by scanning the QR codes thereby making it simpler and easier.
The latest Android beta version of WhatsApp with the version number 2.18.93 has received the QR codes feature and is available for download via the Google Play Store. If you have already enabled the WhatsApp payments option enabled, then you can go to Settings → Payments. Scroll down and choose the New Payment option. Here, you will get two options - one is UPI ID, which was introduced along with the Notify button earlier this month. The other one is Scan QR Code.
On choosing the second option, you will be redirected to the QR code scanning screen following which you will be asked to key in the amount you would like to send and the UPI PIN for verification.
The WhatsApp Payments feature has been circulating in rumors and leaks for the past few months and was rolled out to the Android users in February. With the UPI based payments features, users can send money to those in their contacts list. Soon after the rollout of this feature, Paytm pointed out the lack of the UPI ID payments and QR code payments and criticized the platform for not adhering to the UPI payment guidelines.
After this criticism, WhatsApp rolled out to the UPI ID payments option with the feature called Send to UPI ID. With this feature, it is possible for users to send money directly to a UPI ID without going to the chat window and hitting the attachments menu. In a previous report, we have already seen that it is possible to make up to 20 UPI payments or a maximum of up to Rs. 1 lakh a day via WhatsApp.
If you want to use the QR code payment options on WhatsApp, then you need to go to the Google Play Store and download the latest version 2.18.93 as mentioned earlier. For now, this feature is available only for the beta users and we can expect it to be rolled out to the stable version of the app soon.
