WhatsApp gets Request Money feature on Android beta

WhatsApp Payments feature was rolled out to the Android users earlier this year. After the rollout of this ability, the messaging platform introduced features such as Send to UPI ID and QR code payments. Now, the Android beta version of WhatsApp has received a new feature, which lets you request money from contacts.

Previously, it was only possible to send money using WhatsApp Payments. Right now, the request money option appears to be limited only to those payments initiated by QR Code and UPI ID. So, it will not work if you choose a contact directly. The request payment feature was spotted in the Android beta version 2.18.113 of WhatsApp.

How to request payment on WhatsApp?

To request money using WhatsApp Payments, you should follow the steps given below.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp → Settings by tapping on the three dots at the top right corner of the app.

Step 2: Go to Payments → New Payment.

Step 3: Over here, you will get two options - Choose UPI ID and QR Code.

Step 4: Choosing one of these options will show a pop-up with two options - Send Money and Request Money.

Step 5: Here, you should tap on Request Money and key in the amount you would like to request and hit the Send button. You will get a notification that the request has been sent. The recipient of the request has to enter the UPI PIN to authenticate the payment.

Validity of the request

The payment request, which you have sent using WhatsApp Payments will be valid for 24 hours. After this time limit, the request will get expired. If the recipient of the request fails to make the payment within 24 hours, then you need to send the request once again. And, if the recipient sends money, then you will get a notification regarding the same.

The screenshot above by the Twitter account @WABetaInfo shows the Request Money option. Also, it is claimed that the status of the pending requests will be seen under Settings → Payments → Payment requests, which is a new section. The approved and declined requests will go the Payment history section under settings.
