Sony’s PS5 Pro Will Not Launch in India – And the Reason May Surprise You
Sony's PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro), the latest mid-generation upgrade to its flagship gaming console, recently launched globally. However, due to regulatory restrictions, the PS5 Pro will not be available in India-a decision that has left many fans disappointed.
Sony confirmed that the absence of Wi-Fi 7 support in India is a major factor holding back the Pro's release in the country.

Why the PS5 Pro Isn't Launching in India
The PS5 Pro debuted on November 7, delivering improved performance with a faster GPU, enhanced memory, and Sony's Spectral Super Resolution technology for better AI-driven upscaling. This upgraded model also includes 2TB of storage and improved ray tracing capabilities, making it a compelling option for serious gamers. Priced at $699.99 globally (approximately ₹59,000), the PS5 Pro was eagerly anticipated by gaming enthusiasts worldwide.
Despite the enthusiasm, Indian gamers will miss out on the new console due to the device's use of the 6GHz wireless band under IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7)-a frequency that is currently restricted in India. This limitation is a key reason Sony cited for the absence of the PS5 Pro from the Indian market.
In a statement, Sony clarified, "PS5 Pro will not be available in some countries (which presently includes India) where the 6GHz wireless band used in IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) has not yet been allowed."
Sony's Alternative: The PS5 30th Anniversary Edition for Indian Fans
While the PS5 Pro won't be making its way to Indian stores, Sony is offering something to soften the blow: the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Limited Edition bundle. Set to be available in India on November 21 for ₹49,999, this limited edition celebrates PlayStation's three-decade legacy in gaming.
Alongside the console, Sony will also release exclusive accessories, including a 30th Anniversary Limited Edition controller priced at ₹6,849 and the DualSense Edge Limited Edition controller for ₹20,999. Additionally, the PS Portal 30th Anniversary Limited Edition will retail at ₹20,799, with pre-orders already available through Amazon India.
Will the PS5 Pro Ever Come to India?
While the Wi-Fi 7 regulatory limitation in India currently prevents the PS5 Pro's release, Sony has not ruled out the possibility of eventually bringing the console to the Indian market. However, this would require changes in India's regulations around the 6GHz wireless band. For now, Indian gamers looking to upgrade will have to rely on the standard PS5 (review) or wait to see if Sony can find a workaround in the future.
