Turn Off Autoplay for Videos on Facebook and Twitter
Every time a video appears on the News Feeds, it auto plays consuming a huge amount of mobile data. You can turn off the same to save a sizeable amount of data that is used.
To do the same, on Facebook, go to Settings → Videos and Photos → Autoplay → On Wi-Fi Connections Only. To do the same on Twitter, go to Settings → Video Autoplay → Use Wi-Fi Only.
Apps need not have access to mobile data
There are a few apps that you might want to browse anytime and anywhere. But, not all the apps need access to the mobile data. So, toggle their access to data individually by heading on to Settings → Cellular and toggle them on or off.
Turn off Wi-Fi Assist
Wi-Fi Assist is a useful feature if you are dealing with unreliable Wi-Fi connections constantly. If you are not careful, it will result in heavy data charges. So, ensure that it is turned off from Settings → Cellular → Wi-Fi Assist.
Disable automatic app updates
There are some applications that get frequent updates while some get occasional updates. If you have set automatic app updates on, then it will happen even when the mobile data connection is turned on.
Turn it off by going to Settings → iTunes & App Stores. Here, disable the option Use Cellular Data to turn off the automatic app updates while you are not using Wi-Fi networks.
iCloud does not need cellular data access
In case, you are using iCloud to sync contents across different devices, you will definitely consume too much of mobile data. Avoid the same by going to Settings → iCloud → iCloud Drive. Then, disable the option Use Cellular Data.
Background app refresh should be disabled
The background app refresh feature that is baked into the iPhone allows apps to refresh the content even when they are not in use. It is needed to decrease the lag and load time when they are opened.
However, the same will contribute to huge data usage behind the scene when you are not using Wi-Fi connections. Turn the feature off by heading to Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
Download music only on Wi-Fi
if mobile data is turned on, disable it to download or stream tracks. You can do it from the specific music app. To do the same for Spotify, go to Settings → Streaming Quality → Download Using Cellular and disable the option.
To do this on Apple Music, you need to go to Settings-> Music → Use Cellular Data and turn off the option so that your mobile data usage is restricted to stream and download music on mobile data.
