Samsung One UI 9.0 Based on Android 17: Check Full Device List, Launch Date, and New Features
Samsung is getting ready to push out One UI 9.0, its next major software version built on Android 17. The beta has been running on the Galaxy S26 series since early May, and based on what's surfaced so far, here's a full breakdown of what to expect, which devices are in line for the update, and when it's likely to arrive.

Launch Timeline
The first official look at One UI 9.0 is expected at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, where Samsung is also set to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. Those two phones will ship with One UI 9.0 out of the box.
For everyone else, the stable rollout is expected to begin sometime in September. The Galaxy S26 series, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7 are likely to be in the first wave, given they're the most recent devices outside of the Unpacked launches. The beta is still limited to the Galaxy S26 series for now, but should expand to more devices before the stable build goes out.

Samsung hasn't officially confirmed which devices will get the update, but Gizmochina has put together a list based on Samsung's existing update policy, which we're reproducing below. If your device isn't here, it most likely won't receive One UI 9.0.

What's Actually New
One UI 8.5 already brought a significant design overhaul, so 9.0 isn't going to look radically different. But there are enough changes to make it worth the upgrade.
Design tweaks:
- Brightness and volume sliders are thicker and now fill their full pill shape, making them easier to tap accurately
- Lock screen and quick panel media widgets can now be resized and show waveform animations that sync with the album art
- Some media controls have shifted to circular buttons instead of the old rectangular grouping
- More liquid glass effects spread across the UI
New features:
- Creative Studio is now built into the stock app, so you can create personalised profile cards without needing a separate app
- Good Lock's Home Up module now supports multi-finger gestures for custom actions like volume adjustment or triggering pop-up windows
- Samsung Browser gets a new Ask AI shortcut for pulling direct answers from webpages
What Android 17 Adds
One UI 9.0 also brings the Android 17 upgrade along with it, which adds a few things worth calling out:
- Any app can now be opened in a floating bubble, not just messaging apps
- A new system-level contacts picker lets you share access to specific contacts with apps, rather than your entire phonebook
- Apps can no longer be locked to a specific screen orientation by developers, improving how they adapt across different screen sizes
More features are expected to be announced at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22.
