MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Leak Hints at Apple-Level Performance: Could Bring Console-Like Gaming Features
MediaTek’s next flagship chip is starting to sound a lot more ambitious than the company’s previous attempts.
A fresh leak from tipster Digital Chat Station claims the upcoming Dimensity 9600 could be MediaTek’s first 2nm smartphone chipset, and if the early details are accurate, the company may be aiming directly at both Qualcomm and Apple this time.

And honestly, some of the claims are pretty aggressive.
MediaTek Could Be Chasing Apple-Level CPU Performance
According to the leak, the Dimensity 9600 may use a 2+3+3 all-big-core architecture.
That alone already suggests MediaTek is prioritizing raw performance heavily instead of focusing mainly on efficiency balancing.
The tipster claims single-core performance could get close to Apple’s chips, while multi-core performance may even go beyond them. The leak doesn’t clarify whether that comparison is against Apple’s current-generation silicon or the upcoming A20 Pro, so that part should definitely be taken cautiously for now.
Still, it gives a pretty clear idea of what MediaTek is targeting internally.
There’s also mention of major gains in CME and SME performance, which are reportedly expected to nearly double compared to the previous generation. Cache improvements, however, apparently won’t be as dramatic.
Gaming Seems to Be a Huge Focus This Time
The GPU side sounds equally important here.
The Dimensity 9600 is tipped to feature a larger next-generation “Magin” GPU, and the leak claims MediaTek is pushing heavily into gaming-related technologies.
That reportedly includes native-level frame interpolation, super-resolution support, and improved ray tracing performance.
In practical terms, this could mean smoother gameplay at higher frame rates without pushing the hardware as aggressively all the time. Android brands have been leaning more into these AI-assisted gaming tricks recently, especially in gaming phones and performance-focused flagships.
If MediaTek gets this right, the gap between Snapdragon gaming performance and Dimensity chips could shrink further.
Vivo and Oppo Phones May Get the Chip First
The leak also points toward a September debut window for devices powered by the Dimensity 9600.
The Vivo X500 Pro lineup is currently rumored to be among the first phones expected to use the chipset.
Oppo’s next Find X10 Pro series models are also said to be testing the platform internally. It's still unclear whether Oppo plans to launch those phones in September or stick to its usual October timing.
Either way, the second half of 2026 is shaping up to be pretty crowded for flagship Android launches.
Qualcomm Isn’t Far Behind Either
MediaTek likely won’t have much breathing room after launch.
Qualcomm is also expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro around the same time. Xiaomi’s upcoming Xiaomi 18 series is rumored to debut with those chips shortly after.
So this year’s flagship chip battle may end up being less predictable than usual. And that’s probably good news for Android phones overall.
