OnePlus 13R Rumored to Feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dual 50MP Cameras

As OnePlus prepares to unveil its flagship OnePlus 13 in China, rumors about the company's next premium mid-range offering, the OnePlus 13R, are starting to surface. According to a leak from a well-known tipster, DigitalChatStation (DCS), the OnePlus 13R could be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 5, continuing the tradition of renaming the Ace series for global markets.

While OnePlus hasn't confirmed these details, the leak gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the successor to the OnePlus 12R (review).

OnePlus 13R Rumored to Feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 & Dual 50MP Cameras

OnePlus 13R or OnePlus Ace 5?

DCS dropped some intriguing hints about an upcoming premium phone from OnePlus. While the name remains under wraps, the specifications strongly suggest it belongs to the OnePlus Ace series.
Historically, the vanilla Ace models have found their way to global markets under the OnePlus R moniker. The OnePlus Ace 2 and 3 became the OnePlus 11R and 12R respectively. Following this trend, the leak suggests the OnePlus Ace 5 could be unveiled as the OnePlus 13R in select regions like India.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Expected

The leaked specs point towards the OnePlus 13R sporting the Qualcomm SM8750 chipset, likely translating to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This would be a significant upgrade from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the OnePlus 12R. However, a possibility remains that OnePlus might stick to its usual strategy for the R series and equip it with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Display and Cameras

While details about the screen size are scarce, the leak suggests the OnePlus 13R will boast a 1.5K display. On the camera front, things get interesting. Rumors suggest a dual-camera system featuring a 50MP Sony IMX906 primary sensor and a 50MP Samsung JN1 telephoto lens. This setup mirrors the one found on the high-end Oppo Find X8 series, hinting at flagship-level camera capabilities in a mid-range package.

For comparison, the OnePlus 12R settled for a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary sensor alongside an 8MP ultra-wide and a rather underwhelming 2MP macro lens. The inclusion of a telephoto lens would be a welcome addition for users who value zooming capabilities.

Bigger Battery for More Power

In terms of battery life, the OnePlus 13R is rumored to pack a larger 6,000mAh battery, up from the 5,500mAh cell found in the OnePlus 12R. This boost in capacity would not only improve screen-on time but also help the phone last longer during heavy use. Combined with the efficient Snapdragon chipset, this larger battery should give users more confidence in their phone's longevity.

Expected Launch Timeline

With the OnePlus Ace 5 rumored to launch before the end of 2024, it's likely that the OnePlus 13R will follow shortly after, debuting in select markets outside China. If previous patterns hold, we can expect the OnePlus 13R to launch alongside the flagship OnePlus 13, giving consumers another solid option in the premium mid-range segment.
