OxygenOS 16 and ColorOS 16 Tipped to Get Full-Screen AOD, Liquid Glass-Style UI, Lockscreen Widgets, and More
If you’re using a OnePlus or Oppo phone, you might soon notice some pretty big changes coming your way. Tipster Yogesh Brar has hinted at some of the biggest changes coming to OxygenOS 16 and ColorOS 16, the next Android 16-based updates from OnePlus and Oppo.

Full-Screen Always-On Display and a Fresh Look
One of the standout features tipped for OxygenOS 16 and ColorOS 16 is a full-screen always-on display. Instead of the limited AOD we’re used to, this version could stretch across the entire screen, giving you more at-a-glance information without waking the phone.
The visual overhaul doesn’t stop there. A new “Liquid Glass” style UI has been spotted, and yes, it looks a little like Apple’s design language. Expect frosted glass-like elements, softer transitions, and a more fluid interface. Brar also noted a redesigned Photos app, new customization options like icon shape changes, and an overall smoother feel across the UI.
Lockscreen Widgets Make a Return
Another handy addition is lockscreen widgets. If this sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve seen versions of it on Android before. This time, both OnePlus and Oppo are bringing it back in a cleaner way. Widgets on the lockscreen could let you check the weather, control music, or view reminders without unlocking your phone.

Smoother Performance and Faster App Loads
A new UI only matters if it runs well, and leaks suggest OnePlus and Oppo are working on just that. OxygenOS 16 and ColorOS 16 are tipped to deliver faster app launches and smoother animations, which should make daily use feel more responsive. Small changes like these often go unnoticed until you switch back to an older build and realize just how clunky it feels.
Beta Testing Already Underway
On the OnePlus side, OxygenOS 16 is currently in closed beta testing for the OnePlus 13 and 13s. Another tipster, Abhishek Yadav, recently spotted that the Nord 4 could soon join the program, after the option to apply for the beta appeared in its update section with the August 2025 patch. As always, these closed betas are limited to a small group of users and usually come with bugs.
For Oppo users, ColorOS 16 testing has started with the Find X8 series. Earlier this year, Oppo rolled out Android 16 betas for select models, and this new listing suggests a wider release isn’t far away.
When Will You Get the Update?
While neither company has announced an official release date, history gives us a rough idea. OnePlus usually pushes an open beta around October, followed by a stable release in November. Oppo tends to follow a similar timeline, starting with flagships before expanding to mid-range models.
If you're wondering which Oppo devices might get the update, we've already put together a list of phones likely to receive ColorOS 16.
