Poco Confirms Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Flagship: Is It the F8 Ultra or the F8 Pro?

Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, its new mobile chipset that will power next year’s Android flagships. Xiaomi is first in line with the Xiaomi 17 series launching in China later today, but Poco isn’t far behind. The company confirmed in a post this morning that its upcoming flagship will also feature the new chip.

Poco’s Next Flagship and the Name Game

Poco hasn’t revealed the phone’s actual name yet. All it has said is that a “next-gen flagship” is coming with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Given the timing, most signs point to the Poco F8 series.

Looking at past launches helps narrow it down. The Poco F7 Ultra carried Qualcomm’s previous top-tier chip, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the new silicon debuts inside a Poco F8 Ultra. That said, Poco could still have different plans, and there’s no official confirmation just yet.

The F8 Pro and Redmi K90 Connection

The Poco F8 Pro, on the other hand, is rumored to be a rebrand of the Redmi K90. If that holds true, the device could come with some interesting hardware.

Leaks suggest the Redmi K90 may feature a 6.59-inch flat RGB OLED LTPS display with 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s also tipped to include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, dual stereo speakers, a metal mid-frame, and an x-axis linear motor for more refined haptics.

On the battery front, the K90 is rumored to pack a 7,100mAh cell with 100W fast charging. That would give the rebranded Poco version a serious edge in endurance.

Waiting for Official Details

For now, Poco is keeping its cards close to its chest. The company has confirmed the chipset but stopped short of saying which phone will carry it first. Whether it’s the Poco F8 Ultra or the F8 Pro, both will mark a big step forward with Qualcomm’s latest silicon.

With Xiaomi already rolling out the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the 17 series, Poco’s announcement is a clear signal that it doesn’t want to be left out of the early wave of 2026 flagships.
