Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 to feature large cover display to rival Motorola Razr 40 Ultra

The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra set the standard for cover displays on clamshell foldable smartphones. While Samsung has historically used significantly smaller screens on its Galaxy Z Flip smartphones, the upcoming iteration of the device will likely be different.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to feature a large cover display. Several leaks have emerged about the larger outer screen coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the most recent one comes from tipster Yogesh Brar, who confirmed the specifications of Samsung's upcoming flip smartphone.

According to Brar, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a 3.4-inch HD AMOLED cover display with a pixel density of 304 PPI. While Samsung has yet to confirm details about the Galaxy Z Flip 5, past leaks have also pointed to a larger cover screen on the Z Flip 5, which only stops short of the two camera modules on the back.

For comparison, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra has the largest cover screen on a flip smartphone, coming in at 3.6 inches. The Razr 40 Ultra's outer display also has a higher resolution and pixel density than the rumoured screen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Specifications (Expected)

Apart from the cover screen, Brar also confirmed that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be powered by the same custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset found on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The chip will be paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will also pack a 3,700 mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will sport a 6.7-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. For optics, Samsung's upcoming Flip smartphone will feature a dual-camera setup with a 12 MP primary sensor with OIS and a 12 MP ultrawide unit. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will run Android 13 out of the box with One UI 5.1 on top.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Launch, Price (Expected)

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 launch date is set for July 26 or July 27, according to Brar. However, the South Korean tech giant recently confirmed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event for foldable smartphones will take place in late June in Seoul.

The tipster also noted that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 price will start from $999 (roughly Rs 82,550). We can expect the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 price in India to fall anywhere between Rs 90,000 and Rs 1,00,000. To recall, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is also launching in India soon.
