Samsung Teases Galaxy Unpacked With a New Foldable Form Factor, and All Signs Point to Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide

Samsung has released a series of teaser videos across its social channels ahead of Galaxy Unpacked, and while they look playful at first glance, there's something worth paying attention to if you look closely.

A familiar shape keeps appearing throughout, and given what's leaked about Samsung's upcoming foldable lineup, it's not hard to guess what it's pointing to.

What the Teasers Show

The videos feature everyday objects going through transformations, including pizza slices, chocolate bars, a puzzle, dalgona, a squeegee, a photo, and even the Taj Mahal. Each clip is short and visually light, but the common thread across all of them is a shape and ratio that repeats throughout. The shape is noticeably wider and shorter than the tall, narrow profile Samsung's Fold series has maintained for years.

That proportion lines up closely with what multiple leakers have described as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, a new form factor Samsung is reportedly developing alongside the more traditional Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Leaked renders show a foldable with exactly this kind of squat, wide silhouette, featuring a dual rear camera setup and a design that's visibly more compact than any previous Galaxy Z Fold when closed.

What's Been Leaked About the Wide Fold

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide reportedly has a much wider aspect ratio that opens to a screen more suited for videos and games. According to leaks from tipster Ice Universe and dummy unit photos from Sonny Dickson, the phone is tipped to feature a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch folding display, with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, 12 to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and a 4,800mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to weigh 201g, around 14g lighter than its sibling, and reportedly drops the telephoto camera entirely, running a dual 50MP main and 50MP ultrawide setup instead. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, by contrast, is said to be more of a traditional successor to the Z Fold 7, with a triple rear camera system and a larger 5,000mAh battery.

Firmware evidence, leaked dimensions, physical dummy units, and live images have reportedly all converged on the same design, making the Wide's shorter, wider silhouette one of the more consistent leaks in the lead-up to Unpacked.

It's also worth noting that Samsung's branding for this device isn't fully settled. Case retail boxes have reportedly labelled the phone as "Galaxy New Fold" rather than Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, suggesting Samsung may have different branding planned entirely.

When to Expect It

Samsung is rumoured to debut the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026, with the event reportedly taking place in London. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also expected to be revealed on the same day.

Samsung has not officially confirmed any device details, and everything above remains based on leaks and tipster reports until Galaxy Unpacked.
