TCL Foldable Smartphone Prototype Released; Features Dual Folded Display

TCL foldable smartphones will be the latest to join the league of foldable smartphones. However, the TCL is set to launch a foldable smartphone with a unique design, where the phone will likely have two folds and two hinges. The concept TCL foldable smartphone shows that three planes will unfold to make a larger screen.

TCL Foldable Smartphone Dual Hinge

The new foldable smartphone will have two names for the two hinges, says CNET. The first is named Dragon Hinge, which folds in and the second hinge is called Butterfly Hinge that folds out. Together, the hinges form a zig-zag shape to open the smartphone to a larger screen. The outer layer is formed by the screen closed with the Butterfly Hinge.

CNET says that TCL is inventing the new dual-foldable screens to combat the screen breakage issues concerning the durability of foldable smartphones. The unique TCL foldable smartphone also hopes to create a better and stronger hinge with a natural design.

TCL Foldable Smartphone Launch

At the moment, the Chinese company has not announced any name for the foldable smartphone. There is no news about a probable launch date or even leaks about the expected price. Coming to the features, a report about the TCL foldable smartphone mentioned it might have a quad-camera set up at the rear, which will be placed at the front-facing sensor.

The TCL foldable smartphone is also expected to feature a USB Type-C port. Speculations also reveal that TCL might scrap the 3.5mm audio socket. The prototype device that CNET received is not a fully functional smartphone and doesn't feature a working screen. Hence, it's hard to say more about the folded display and other details.

Numerous smartphone makers are developing foldable smartphones, creating a niche design. Samsung and Huawei have already launched their foldable smartphones, namely the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X. However, there are issues regarding the screen display and hinges.

However, the demand for foldable smartphones is spiking. Xiaomi, Motorola, Microsoft, and other companies are pitching in to make foldable smartphones. However, most of them are in the infancy stage and may or may not hit the consumer market. With the TCL foldable smartphone prototype in hand, we can expect the company to launch the device soon.
