Xiaomi Foldable Phone With Penta-Lens Pop-Up Camera Likely On Cards

Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro and its international variant, the Mi Note 10 went official in the last week. These smartphones have a penta-lens camera system at the rear. Imagine, having five camera sensors at the front as selfie cameras. Well, this is what Xiaomi seems to be planning, suggests a new patent filing.

Xiaomi Foldable Phone Patent

As per the patent that was published a few days back via TigerMobiles, Xiaomi might take the wraps off a new smartphone with five pop-up cameras. Doesn't that sound great? This upcoming smartphone is suggested to be a foldable device with an outward folding display.

Based on how you hold the device, these five cameras within the pop-up camera module will double either as rear cameras or selfie cameras. When the smartphone is folded, the cameras will be positioned at the left, which is relatively thicker. The reason is that the left part of the device houses the battery and other internal components.

Xiaomi Teases Foldable Phone

Earlier this year, a video showing the foldable smartphone in action emerged online. The device appeared to feature a triple fold design. The alleged Xiaomi phone is believed to be folded from both sides while Samsung's device is a double fold phone.

The video showed the Xiaomi foldable phone running Google Maps, which is optimized to work even on a foldable display. This is possible with a dynamic UI change and the same is expected from other apps too. Once it is opened, the device becomes an 8-inch tablet with minimal bezels.

What We Think

One thing that we would like to keep in the forefront is that though Xiaomi seems to be working on a foldable smartphone with a pop-up camera comprising five camera sensors, we cannot expect the final product anytime soon. Remember that not all patent filings come real and there are increased possibilities for the device to remain in the dark.

Recently, the company announced the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha with a wrap-around display. This appears to have a futuristic design and is slated to go on sale in the coming months. So, even if the foldable smartphone is announced later, it might take months to go on sale.
