Xiaomi Mi 7 might be postponed; MWC 2018 announcement unlikely

Xiaomi confirmed its presence at the MWC 2018 tech show in Barcelona next month. Soon after the confirmation hit the web, there were speculations that the company might unveil its flagship Mi 7 on the show floor. Now, according to the latest rumors, the Mi 7 might not be announced at the MWC 2018. The recent speculation is that Xiaomi might not announce any major product at the tech show next month.

A report by Android Headlines, a high-level employee at Xiaomi who wished to remain anonymous confirmed that the company is not planning to make any major announcement at the MWC 2018 tech show. Having said that we cannot expect the Mi 7 or the Mi Mix 2S to be unveiled at the event as speculated earlier.

Recently, we came across a report suggesting that the Mi Mix 2S might be unveiled ahead of the MWC 2018. The company is also expected to announce its new Surge S2 chipset at the tech show. So, we can expect Xiaomi to come up with the Mi 6c that might use the company's new proprietary chipset in February.

The speculation regarding the postponement of the Mi 7's announcement comes within days after the same of the HTC U12, Huawei P11 and LG G7. It is claimed that none of these flagship smartphones might be unveiled at the MWC 2018 and that the companies are eying for a March or April announcement. It is claimed that these companies want to avoid the clash with Samsung's flagship duo - Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ all set to be unveiled on February 25.

As of now, it is only Nokia 9 that will be unveiled along with a few other devices from HMD Global at the MWC 2018. Also, Sony is expected to unveil its flagship smartphone - the Xperia XZ Pro at the tech show.

When it comes to the Xiaomi Mi 7, the device has been circulating in rumors and leaks for quite some time. The smartphone is believed to be launched with support for wireless charging. Powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC, this smartphone is likely to be launched in the metal and ceramic variants as its predecessor.
