Google Outlines Bard Roadmap: Catchup With Microsoft ChatGPT And Then Race Ahead?

Google I/O 2023 had several announcements about the Google Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 7a. However, the primary focus of the search giant clearly remains Bard, its Generative AI platform.

Google Bard AI was recently upgraded to PaLM 2, just like ChatGPT is now based on GPT-4. In a blog post dedicated to Bard, Google offered some insights into the development of conversational AI and offered some glimpses into the immediate future of the Generative AI platform.

Google Outlines Bard Roadmap: Playing Catchup With Microsoft ChatGPT?

Google Promises To "Bring Bard To More People"

Microsoft launched ChatGPT last year, well before Google introduced its Bard AI to the world. Google is now racing to get "Bard into more people's hands".

Google has officially removed all waitlists and opened up access to Bard AI. Users in over 180 countries and territories will now be able to use Bard AI without waiting in any queue.

Google Lens Now Baked Into Bard AI

Google announced it is bringing the power of Google Lens right into Bard. Simply put, images captured from Google Lens will now benefit from the Generative AI platform.

Users will be able to capture photos in Google Lens. These photos will be analyzed by Bard AI to recognize the various aspects, objects, and context. AI will be able to create captions or content based on users' inputs.

Bard AI Now Powers Google Workspace And Its Multiple Services

As announced previously, Google is now seeding Bard AI into nearly every software product and service it offers. While Google Docs, Drive, Gmail, and Maps would obviously benefit from the Generative AI platform, there are several more services from across the web, with extensions from partners that will get Bard AI.

Google has confirmed it is integrating Adobe Firefly, Adobe's family of creative generative AI models, into Bard. This will allow users to easily and quickly turn their own creative ideas into high-quality images.

Images generated by Bard AI can then be edited further. Users can also add their own designs in Adobe Express.

Third-party service providers such as Kayak, OpenTable, ZipRecruiter, Instacart, Wolfram, and Khan Academy are also collaborating with Google to incorporate Bard AI into their platforms. It is obvious that Google is actively seeking partners who will readily embed Bard AI.

Google Introduces Coding Upgrades And Export Features

Google claims it has been listening to developers' feedback. It has added a few key coding upgrades to Bard AI, such as:

  • Source Citations: Starting next week, Bard AI will make citations even more precise. If Bard brings in a block of code or cites other content, users can just click the annotation and Bard will underline those parts of the response and link to the source.
  • Dark Theme: Google has launched a Dark Theme, which is another feature developers have asked for. Google claims this could help make interacting with Bard a lot easier on the eyes.
  • "Export" Button: Google will soon add the ability to export and run code with its partner Replit, starting with Python.

Generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Bard are being increasingly used to jumpstart emails and documents. Knowing this Google is launching two more Export Actions, making it easy to move Bard's responses right into Gmail and Docs.

Google is serious about moving Bard closer to users and nudging them away from OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has already been adopted by millions. Now that Google has done away with the waitlist, it could boost the adoption and usage of Bard AI significantly.
