Apple AR headsets and AR glasses have long been rumored. The current growth scale shows that AR and VR tech is the next big platform after mobile devices, and Apple plans to be part of the league. According to reports, Apple AR headsets are codenamed N301. So far, the speculations reveal that the AR headsets are slimmer than the Oculus Quest.

The Apple employees were told that developers would begin working on the software aspect of the AR headsets from 2021, cementing the notion that it might be released in 2022. In addition, Apple is reportedly working on AR glasses. A unique aspect of the AR glasses is that it can be worn for longer durations, in comparison with the AR headsets.

The AR glasses in the prototype feature thick frames where the battery and the processor chips are supposedly placed. Apple is reportedly working on lenses that darken during an AR operation to indicate that the user is occupied.

The Apple AR headsets and AR glasses, combined with VR, will primarily focus on gaming, virtual meetings, and videos. The AR headsets underwork are reportedly going to feature a new 3D sensor system, which is believed to be an advanced version of the Face ID camera. The reports further suggest that the improved 3D system might be sported in the upcoming iPad Pro coming out next year.

Previously, Apple CEO Time Cook had said in an interview that Augmented Reality is a big idea like a smartphone. Over time, it's become evident that AR and VR are tougher grounds to crack. Bulky hardware, dissatisfying user experience, and software hindrances are some of the challenges tech companies are facing. If the reports are true, Apple might reinvent the designs of the AR headsets and AR glasses.
