Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition Confirmed Ahead Of China Launch On December 25

Xiaomi has confirmed that the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra will arrive in a dedicated Leica Edition, adding more weight to the company’s long-running partnership with Leica. This confirmation comes just a day before the phone’s official debut in China on December 25.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition Confirmed Ahead Of China Launch

Xiaomi has already been teasing the 17 Ultra in stages, but the Leica Edition branding makes it clear where the focus is this time. The retail box carries both Xiaomi and Leica logos, along with a reference to a “strategic cooperation upgrade,” hinting at deeper joint work on imaging rather than surface-level tuning.

A Closer Look At The Camera Hardware

Based on details Xiaomi has officially shared over the past few days, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is shaping up to be its most camera-focused phone yet. The headline feature is a Leica-tuned 200MP periscope telephoto camera that offers a continuous focal length between 75mm and 100mm, or roughly 3x to 4.3x optical zoom.

Xiaomi says this setup uses a 3G + 5P dual floating lens design, borrowing principles from professional zoom lenses rather than typical smartphone periscope systems. The telephoto camera has also received Leica’s Apochromatic optical certification, which is aimed at reducing colour fringing and maintaining clarity across the zoom range.

Xiaomi has shared comparison samples shot at 75mm, 85mm, 90mm, and 100mm, positioning the 17 Ultra against rival flagships. The company claims better sharpness, finer detail, and more natural colours, though independent testing will ultimately decide how meaningful the gains are.

One-Inch Sensor And Familiar Ultra Design

Alongside the telephoto camera, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is confirmed to feature a new one-inch Omnivision OV50X primary sensor, backed by Leica tuning. Xiaomi says this sensor uses LOFIC technology to improve dynamic range, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

Design-wise, the phone sticks to familiar Ultra-series cues. It features a large circular camera island with prominent Leica branding, similar to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The phone will be available in Black, White, and a Starry Sky Green colour option.

Performance And Battery Details Also Confirmed

Beyond the camera, Xiaomi has confirmed a few key hardware details. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and is expected to pack a 6,800mAh battery. Charging support is rated at up to 100W wired and 80W wireless.

Despite the large battery and camera hardware, Xiaomi says the 17 Ultra will be its thinnest Ultra phone so far, measuring just 8.29mm in thickness.

Stay tuned for the official launch!
