Skullcandy Crusher ANC Review: Just Everything Premium
Skullcandy is one of the most preferred audio products brand in India. The company grabbed the attention of the audience by launching stylish yet good sounding products. The company has a wide portfolio of products to choose from in all price segments.
- Comfortable over-the-ear design
- Haptic bass feedback enhances the listening experience
- Good battery backup
- Noise cancellation is average
- Average charging time
The latest entrant in the company's portfolio is the Skullcandy Crusher ANC over-the-ear headset. The device is designed to please the bass-heads, and if you are one of them then this is a pair worth checking out. Its USP is the adjustable Sensory Bass feature patented by the company.
The Skullcandy Crusher ANC retails at Rs. 24,999 in Deep Red and Fearless Black colors. Available for purchase at Amazon, the ANC headphones are competing with Bose and Sony's premium products like Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 and WH-1000XM3 respectively. But, does it fair well against its competitions? Here is what we think:
Skullcandy Crusher ANC Design: Looks Premium Feels Super Comfy
The Skullcandy Crusher ANC headphones come with an over-the-ear design with big earcups. It features a plastic build that is not only lightweight, but offers a premium feel with the matte finish.
What adds to the wearing comfort is the soft cushioning around the big earpads and the headband. If you are amongst those who put on a pair for longer durations, the Crusher ANC will live up to their expectations.
Primarily because it is lightweight and the earpads don't make you sweat with prolonged usage. You get three keys on the right earcup. There is a media play/pause key tucked between the volume keys.
While the middle key is used to play/pause media, the volume keys double up as seek forward/backward keys. To do so, you need to press the volume keys twice.
At the left earcup, there is the power key and the adjustable Bass slider. The left earcup is touch-sensitive, though the functionality is limited to only switching on Ambient mode.
This feature allows you to listen to your surroundings without actually turning off the music or reducing the volume manually. You can toggle ANC off/on by pressing the power key twice. Skullcandy has got the formula right in designing the Crusher ANC.
Skullcandy Crusher ANC Audio Performance: Haptic Feedback Enhances Listening Experience
The Crusher ANC is packed with 40mm drivers that produce a 20Hz- 20Khz frequency range. If you are playing any media within this frequency range, you will be able to play with the haptic feedback settings via the slider on the left earcup.
I would like to emphasize that the haptic bass feedback primarily works with wireless media playback. If you are using the AUX connectivity, this feature will not work.
The Crusher ANC lives up to the expectations and delivers well in terms of audio. Even at the maximum levels, you get to hear the instruments and vocals clearly with no muffling and distortions.
Moreover, the audio doesn't leak and also doesn't give you a headache at the peak levels. The haptic bass feedback is what impressed me and is probably going to grab your attention instantly as well.
If you tune up the slider to the max, you will feel the earcups buzzing with every beat. Plus, it doesn't feel gimmicky, so you are definitely going to live this feature.
It delivers premium audio output, be it on streaming platforms or the other media files you play on your smartphones, tablets, or laptops.
I have tested this pair with most of the genres. It delivers a balanced output, without the lows, mids, or the highs overlapping each other.
Skullcandy Crusher ANC Review: Pairing And Call Quality
The Skullcandy Crusher ANC packs the standard connectivity options we see on the wireless headphones nowadays. It comes with both Bluetooth and AUX connectivity and is compatible with devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and PCs.
For wireless pairing, you need to switch on the pair and look for the device in the Bluetooth settings. The procedure is similar to what you might have performed with other wireless audio products.
There is no hassle as such. If you want a wired connection, use the AUX cable that ships with the box. Thankfully, you won't have to shell out extra bucks from your pocket to buy a new cable.
You also get a Personal Sound feature using which you can custom-tune the headphones to suit your listening experience. You can make customizations in the headphones via the Skullcandy App.
Calling quality is also on par with the competitions. There is no stutter in the calls and you are also audible easily to the caller. I find it quite easy to answer calls via this pair and had a good experience overall.
Skullcandy Crusher ANC Battery
While Skullcandy has not revealed the battery capacity; it claims a backup of 24 hours. In my testing, the results were close to the claims. The headphone can easily last more than a day with a single charge.
Besides, the pair is accompanied by a Rapid Charge technology that can refuel the battery with a backup of up to three hours with just 10 minutes of charging. This comes in handy if you are traveling.
Is It Worth The Hype?
Skullcandy has once again caused a stir in the premium audio products segment with the launch of the Crusher ANC headphones. What you will like about this pair is its premium looking design complimented with good audio.
The haptic bass feedback is what grabs the attention. It is super comfortable to wear and with the premium listening experience it offers, it lives up to the expectations of the audiophiles.
I would recommend this product because it looks good, sounds amazing and has a reasonable Rs. 24,990 price tag.
