Google Pay Adds Biometric Authentication To Send Money
The rise of digital payments in the wake of demonetization in India paved the way for numerous apps and services providing simple and easy money transfer in just a few clicks. One of the popular apps is Google Pay, which is a UPI-based money transfer app that has gained popularity by giving rewards to users.
For almost two years, this service has been letting users protect their transactions with just a PIN or pattern. Now, it looks like the latest iteration, Google Pay 2.100 has brought a new means of security to the way people send and receive money. Well, the talk is about the fingerprint or face authentication to help make transactions secure.
Google Pay Biometric Login
In a recent development, Google Pay has received an update, which lets users add biometrics for authenticating the transactions, reports Android Police. This can be done in the Send money settings. Earlier, it was possible to do the same with just a PIN. The toggle lets users authenticate transactions with unique features along with the secure PIN.
Notably, there were reports suggesting that Google Pay is working on a biometric security option and this does not come as a surprise to many users who were expecting high levels of security. And, this change will change the way people send money using the app while others remain the same. For NFC payments at stores, users just have to unlock their phones.
Users interested in the security feature brought in by Google Pay can update the existing app to version 2.100 from the Play Store. And, those who are impatient to try the feature can do so by sideloading the same from APK Mirror.
One notable aspect is that the API has been introduced only with Android 10, which is the latest iteration of the OS. So, those who are interested in trying Google Pay's biometric authentication feature should upgrade to the latest iteration of the OS. Also, there are possibilities that this feature might be available for Android 9 devices but there is no confirmation on the same.
Our Take On This Feature
It is interesting to see the biometric authentication feature being brought to Google Pay. This makes the transactions secure with fingerprint or face recognition. Eventually, it will prevent issues wherein other users try to transfer money from your account using your Google Pay app.
