WhatsApp to Soon Let You Filter Unknown Chats into a ‘Message Requests’ Folder, Similar to Instagram
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature aimed at enhancing user control over incoming messages. This feature, currently in the development phase, will allow users to manage how they receive messages from unknown contacts. It is expected to be included in a future update.
The primary goal of this upcoming feature is to give users more authority over their chat interactions and connections within the app. By introducing a new privacy setting, WhatsApp aims to provide users with options to filter messages from unfamiliar contacts without blocking them entirely.

Privacy Settings for Message Control
The new setting, titled "Who can message me," will offer two main choices for users. The first option, "Everyone," maintains the current default setting where any message from an unknown contact appears directly in the chat list.
The second choice, "My Contacts," provides enhanced control by directing messages from non-contacts into a separate folder named "Requests." This option prevents such messages from appearing immediately in the main chat tab, allowing users to organize their inbox more effectively.
Functionality of the Requests Folder
The "Requests" folder functions similarly to Instagram's "Message Requests" feature. When someone outside a user's contact list sends a message, it is stored in this folder instead of appearing on the main chat screen. This helps users manage conversations selectively and keep their primary chat area uncluttered.
It's important to note that this new privacy setting does not block or stop messages from being delivered. Instead, it simply alters how these messages are displayed within WhatsApp, offering users greater flexibility in managing their chats.
This development reflects WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience by providing more personalized control over communication settings. By allowing users to decide how they want to handle unknown messages, WhatsApp aims to improve user satisfaction and security.
