Hard drives are electronic devices that store your data. And there will come a phase when it eventually stops working. You can’t stop it because no matter what, the truth is it has a limited lifespan. This simply means that even the data stored on the hard drive should have a proper backup.

Things you Should Do When Your Hard Drive Fails

What indicates that your hard drive is failing?

A hard drive may stop working gradually or may stop working altogether. Apparently, in the second scenario, you can’t do anything. But if your hard drive is slowly failing, you can still save your precious data. Signs that indicate that your hard drive is failing are:

• Your PC is not recognizing the hard drive.

• Your PC starts booting when connected to the hard drive. 0

• Your computer freezes when you use your hard drive.

• Your hard drive has started making sounds.

What to do if you know that your hard drive is failing?

If your hard drive is working but is failing gradually, you can simply connect your device to your computer and transfer the important files. Even if you have a dead hard drive, the data won’t be hard to recover. But then, it is important to have a good up-to-date backup. All you need to do is get a new hard drive. After that, reinstall your Windows and then restore that backup data in the new hard drive.

If you are not maintaining up-to-date backups, things will be a bit difficult for you as you will have to go for professional data recovery services. In data recovery services, the professional open up your hard drive and then try to get your data from the magnetic platter. But this procedure again doesn’t ensure complete data recovery.

If you do not want to spend your money in a professional data recovery service, you can try something which might sound silly but have worked for many. Freeze your hard drive. Yes, you need to store your hard drive in a freezer.

But the catch here is, this trick will only work for a mechanical hard drive. But make sure, you place the hard drive inside high-quality freezer bags to prevent damage from condensation. It might or might not work for you, but there is no harm in trying it.

You can’t prevent your hard drive from dying, but you can prevent the data loss by using an online platform to create backups!
