Bengaluru Residents To Get One hour Free Internet Daily
Bengaluru, the city branded as India's tech hub, will soon be getting free internet for an hour daily. The news comes from the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2019, where Karanataka's deputy CM C. N. Ashwat Narayan announced the plans to launch free internet daily for an hour in the city. The government is joining hands with ACT Fibernet for the service.
Bengaluru's Free Internet Service
The free internet service will need approximately nine months to be available for use. "We require nine months to roll out the free internet plan which had been in demand for the last four years," Narayan said in a statement. The massive project is budgeted to cost Rs. 100 crores for the one-hour free internet service a day.
ACT Fibernet will take charge of the Bengaluru's free internet service. The service provider will begin the project by installing poles throughout the city. ACT Fibernet will charge a nominal fee and will also offer power supply, the deputy CM said. The move will expand home broadband services in the city, the state government and internet service providers said.
Bengaluru's free internet service is one that's much needed in the high-density city. However, it remains unclear if the service will be available across the city or in selected areas initially. ACT Fibernet is one of the popular internet service providers in the city. It is expected that the company will succeed in deploying free internet access points in the given time frame, which will likely increase ACT's popularity.
Bengaluru's Free Internet Service Boosts Broadband
The current internet landscape has seen a massive boost in mobile data consumption. However, when it comes to broadband, it remains comparatively low. Internet service providers like ACT Fibernet, Reliance JioFiber, Airtel, and others are popular among Indian audiences, yet, it is still low.
The new Bengaluru's free internet service aims to boost the broadband service in the city. With the free internet service in the city, service providers expect a surge in demand for new broadband connections. In other news, Google has already installed data services across 400 railway stations in the country. The new move aims to bring the free internet service from the railway stations to Bengaluru's streets.
