Oppo Reno 9 Specifications Leaked: Is It Better Compared To Reno 8?

Oppo is gearing up to launch the successors of its popular Reno 8 series of smartphones. The new Reno 9 series of devices are production ready and slowly leaks and rumors have started popping out in the market. Well-known Chinese tipster, DCS (Digital Chat Station) took to Weibo, a microblogging website, to share the leaked specifications of the vanilla Oppo Reno 9. So without any ado, let's find out how it compares with its predecessor.

Oppo Reno 9: Display, Performance (Rumored)

Oppo Reno 9 Specifications Leaked: Is It Better Compared To Reno 8?

DCS suggests that the smartphone with model number PHM110 could launch as the standard Oppo Reno 9. It will sport a curved 6.7-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ (2412x 1080 pixels) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. If rumors hold true, it will be a huge step forward in terms of the display compared to the Reno 8, which came with a 6.4-inch flat AMOLED with a 90Hz refresh rate. For biometrics, it will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Oppo Reno 9 gets a change of heart as it is rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. For the unversed, the Oppo Reno 8 came with a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC at its helm. The Snapdragon 778G+ chipset is built on a 6nm fabrication process and powers the Nothing Phone 1 and the Motorola Edge 30 5G smartphones in the market. Expect similar levels of performance compared to the Dimensity 1300 if not better. The handset will be equipped with up to 12GB of RAM.

Oppo Reno 9: Camera, Battery (Rumored)

In terms of optics, the Oppo Reno 9 will reportedly swap the 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor for a 64MP OmniVision OV64B for its primary camera. There's no information about the ancillary cameras, but expect it to carry the same 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro shooters. DCS reports that the vanilla Oppo Reno 9 will inherit the 32MP Sony IMX709 selfie snapper from its predecessor.

While the display and the cameras seem to have received an upgrade on paper, Oppo has resorted to cost-cutting in the battery charging department. The Reno is expected to pack in a similar 4500mAh battery under its hood, but the fast charging support is down to 67W from the 80W of the Reno 8. To make matters worse, some reports suggest that Oppo might not bundle a charger with the upcoming Reno 9 smartphone.

Should You Wait For The Reno 9 Or Buy The Reno 8 Instead?

Going by the leaked specifications, the Reno 9 seems to have big upgrades in the display and camera departments. It comes with a larger curved OLED display with a higher screen refresh rate. The primary camera has also received a bump in resolution. It would be worth the wait if you like curved screens. If not, then you can go for the Oppo Reno 8, which comes with a flat-screen and faster-charging speeds.
