Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Fold 5 tipped to get major camera, hinge design upgrades
Samsung is set to launch the next generation of its foldable smartphones later this year at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in August. However, that hasn't stopped the rumor mill surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
And the latest rumors come from tipster Yogesh Brar, who has revealed new details about the hinge, camera sensors, and display of the upcoming Samsung foldable smartphones.

According to the tipster, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature new camera sensors. While the phone will retain the same 50 MP primary camera, 12 MP ultrawide shooter, and 10 MP telephoto unit, the camera sensors themselves will be upgraded.
Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will also use updated camera hardware, while retaining the same 12MP resolution on both the main and ultrawide shooters.
Keeping up with the Competition
Brar also notes that Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphones will use the same custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, 'Qualcomm Snapdragon for Galaxy', used on the Galaxy S23 series. Moreover, both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a larger cover screen, which will be particularly advantageous to Samsung's flip smartphone.
Lastly, Brar notes that Samsung is bringing an improved hinge design to its upcoming foldable smartphones. There are no specifics on the hinge design, but previous reports suggest that the existing U-shaped hinge will be replaced by a new water-drop hinge design on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The hinge design is expected to reduce the crease on the displays of both foldable smartphones.
Samsung is the most dominant player in the foldable smartphone market and has enjoyed a lengthy spell at the top. However, as foldable smartphones become more mainstream, the South Korean tech giant's dominant streak could come to an end. Moreover, foldable smartphones like the Oppo Find N2 Flip and Vivo X Fold+ do a much better job at concealing the crease than the fourth generation of Samsung's foldable.
