Oppo A16: Design

The Oppo A16 is one of the newest budget smartphones in India. The device dons an iridescent skin at the back and has an all-plastic build. The back panel has a vertical camera module placed on the upper-left housing three cameras and an LED flash. The Oppo branding is at the bottom left. Upfront, the Oppo A16 has a 6.52-inch display which is an LCD panel. It supports a standard 720 x 1600 pixels HD+ resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, and has a waterdrop-style notch housing the selfie camera. The screen refresh rate is also standard here at 60Hz. This panel is well-suited for basic HD video playback.

Oppo A16: Hardware Performance

The Oppo A16 uses MediaTek’s entry-level game-centric chipset for all operations, i.e., the Helio G35. This octa-core processor is built on a 12nm process and has IMG PowerVR8320 GPU support. The Oppo A16 can perform well with most of the general tasks such as web browsing, online downloads, and also light gameplay. The device comes with 4GB RAM which is ample for multitasking. The storage capacity on board is 64GB which is further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.

Oppo A16: Price To Specs ratio

The Oppo A16 has been announced in a single 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option. This device can be purchased at Rs. 13,990 in India via both online as well as brick and mortar stores. While the configuration is single, the color options available are dual color options – Crystal Black and Pearl Blue. An additional variant and a bit of lower pricing would have made it a strong contender in the budget segment.

Oppo A16: Camera Performance

The budget Oppo A16 has three cameras at the back for primary imaging. The device features a 13MP main camera which is aided by a 2MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth lens. This optics setup is decent for a budget handset. However, competitions are now experimenting with a bigger main camera than a 13MP lens in this segment. The camera performance would be good in the areas with well-lit backgrounds. There are several shooting modes for an improved camera experience. The handset has an 8MP camera for selfies and video calling. This is also a decent module for a budget phone and the most commonly used.

Oppo A16: Important/ Highlight Features

The Oppo A16’s important highlights include a fingerprint scanner on the right panel (integrated within the power key and a custom ColorOS-based Android 11 OS. The device is backed by a 5,000 mAh battery which is expected to last more than eight hours with a single charge and easy to moderate usage. The device also gets IPX4 certification making it water and dust resistant.

Oppo A16: Verdict

The Oppo A16 is just another face in the flooded budget segment. It is packed with an average set of hardware considering the price tag and what the competition has to offer. A higher screen resolution or refresh rate and upgraded camera hardware would have made it a better deal for an asking price of Rs. 13,990.
