Last year, LG launched its Optimus G globally. The device was initially running Android Jelly Bean OS. Now the device is likely to get the KitKat treatment soon. In fact, the Optimus G hasn't received updates to either 4.2 or 4.3 version as well, but it's planned to get Android 4.4 KitKat.

The update went live in South Korea a few months ago. Now it's finally been spotted outside of Korea, reaching many Optimus G owners in India. LG had announced the KitKat update to the device owners back in June.

OTA update is sized at just over 500MB, (size may be variable according to the phone model and country, available as an upgrade over the current firmware) while LG Support tool will download the whole firmware afresh (about 1GB) and then flash the phone with it. So it is recommended to update OTA.

Talking about the changes that the update will bring in the Optimus G smartphone, some apps like Music, Notebook, Safety Care, Q Translator, On-Screen Phone, and File Manager would be updated. Moreover, File Manager interface will also be revamped, New Music app can be connected to LG G watch, Dialer design changed from a "flattish" style to a 3D buttons type, Keyboard has also been given a 3D style with much improved functionality.

Apart from that, other features include: notification area has been given a more modern look (all icons at the top status bar are white now), Car Home app has been added to assist while driving, Weather app has been redesigned with new themes, Multi-photo section has been added under "Wallpapers" section at home-screen by which you can select two or more pics together to set as wallpaper, Software update and App Updates apps have been merged into a single app called "Update Center", System icons and UI has been given a more modern look and feel like that of LG G2, RAM and battery management has been improved considerably.

Unfortunately LG has not added the much awaited "Knock code" or "Double Tap to unlock" function with this update.

If you have not received the update, you can check it out manually by heading on to Settings> About Phone> Software update.
