Got a faulty Nexus 6P? Google will replace it with Pixel XL for eligible users
Nexus 6P seems to be heading towards the EOL (end of life) status soon.
In a rather interesting case, Google is now replacing some defective Nexus 6P smartphones with Pixel XL according to users on Reddit.
While everything is not so clear about this whole situation, we are assuming that Nexus 6P could reach the EOL (end of life) status soon. Nexus 6P has been plagued with battery and boot-loop issues that are causing it to shut off randomly. However, this handset was one of those phones that had high initial quality, but it seems that it has failed to stand the test of time.
Since last December, multiple users have reported problems with their Nexus 6P after the Nougat update. And Google did say that this was strictly due to a hardware-related issue.
So users who submitted an RMA for their Nexus 6P will be eligible to receive Pixel XL as a replacement device. We are not sure as to how long Google will be offering the Pixel XL as an alternative option though. Anyone who has the device and is facing some issue should exchange their devices soon.
Nonetheless, this replacement offer is valid for consumers who have purchased their Nexus 6P from the Google Store. If a person has not bought the phone straight from Google then they won't be offered a Pixel XL as a replacement.
Apart from that, the Reddit post mentions that even units out of the original 1-year warranty are being replaced. Many former Nexus 6P owners have also reported that they have received 32GB Pixel Xl smartphones as warranty replacements, while some seem to have even received 128GB models.
The locations that Google is sending Pixel XL as replacements are yet to be verified but reports indicate that consumers in the U.S. and Canada are only getting the Pixel smartphone. Users in UK and Australia seem to be not that lucky as they are only receiving the same Nexus 6P device as a replacement.
