Redmi 9: Design

The Redmi 9 arrives as one of the latest budget offerings by Xiaomi.  It is the successor to the Redmi 8 which was announced last year in India. The device sports a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display which offers an HD+ resolution with 720 x 1600 pixels and has an aspect ratio of 20:9. It features a Dot notch design complemented by narrow bezels on all sides. The handset features an Aurora Edge design at the rear and is announced in three different shades. The colour options include Carbon Black, Sporty Orange, and Sky Blue colours.

Redmi 9: Hardware Performance

The Xiaomi Redmi 9 is driven by the MediaTek Helio G35 processor which has eight cores. This is an entry-level gaming processor which is clubbed along with 4GB RAM. This is a relatively new processor delivers good performance. The processor is not just capable of handling a basic set of tasks but also can handle gaming and multitasking at hand with ease. Besides, this is a game-centric processor, so, you can expect it to perform decently with the graphic-rich games as well. The device comes with a 64GB/128GB storage configuration. Additionally, it has support for external microSD card as well (up to 512GB).

The optics are handled by a dual-lens camera module at the rear panel on the Redmi 9. The setup includes a 13MP primary sensor which has an f/2.2 aperture. There is also an additional 2MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture that is used for depth effects. The rear cameras are capable of recording 1080p@30fps videos and offer HDR and Portrait shooting modes. The rear camera module should capture decent daylight images and suitable for basic imaging. For selfies and video calling, the waterdrop notch has a 5MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture.

Xiaomi has launched the handset in two different variants. The Redmi 9 base model which has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option is priced at Rs. 8,999. On the other hand, the 4GB/128GB model is launched for Rs. 1,000 more at Rs. 9,999. The pricing is reasonable looking at the spec-sheet. Under Rs. 10,000, you get a dual-camera smartphone which is powered by an entry-level game-centric processor.
