Redmi 9A: Design

The Redmi 9A is one of the most recent budget smartphones by Xiaomi. Similar to most of the affordable devices, it also dons a gradient looking rear panel. The smartphone features vertically aligned camera setup on the top-left of the rear panel. Upfront, the device adorns a tall 6.5-inch IPS LCD which offers an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The display features a U-shaped notch for the selfie camera. The overall design this device offers is decent.

Redmi 9A: Hardware Performance

The Redmi 9A makes use of the MediaTek Helio G25 processor with 2GHz clock speed. This is a new chipset introduced MediaTek which is gaming-oriented and is designed specifically for entry-level smartphones. The processor is paired up with 2GB/3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. It also supports and external microSD card for additional storage space. The smartphone should deliver a good gaming experience since it has a game-centric processor.

Redmi 9A: Price To Specs Ratio

The Xiaomi Redmi 9A comes in two different options to select from. The base model which has 2GB RAM and 32GB storage configuration can be purchased for Rs. 6,799 online. On the other hand, the 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage model will be up for grabs at Rs. 7,499. You don’t have to shell out much to buy the top-end variant. Besides, looking at the spec-sheet the device has reasonable pricing.

Redmi 9A: Camera Performance

For imaging, the Redmi 9A makes use of a single-lens setup at the rear panel. The camera onboard is a 13MP primary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. For selfies and video calls, the device packs a 5MP sensor packed inside the waterdrop notch. We would have appreciated if the device offered a dual-lens setup; however, since the other aspects of the device are also basic, the company has stuck to a single-lens setup.

Redmi 9A: Special/Highlight Features

The Redmi 9A is powered by a big 5,000 mAh battery unit which is supported by the company’s proprietary fast charging support. The massive battery and entry-level specs allow the device to give a backup of at least an entire day on a single charge. Additionally, the device comes with the latest Android 10 OS and has MIUI 12 user interface on top. The device uses Face Unlock and other standard security features such as PIN and password protection.

Redmi 9A: Verdict

The Xiaomi Redmi 9A is the company’s latest bet in the budget segment. The device packs entry-level set of hardware which makes it suitable as a daily driver. It is well-equipped to handle daily tasks such as calling, web browsing, and imaging. Thanks to the game-centric chipset, you can also expect a good performance there.

How do we rate a Device?

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Camera

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Battery

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

Display

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.

Performance

This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
