Samsung Galaxy A31: Design
Samsung has launched yet another mid-range A-series smartphone-- the Samsung Galaxy A31 in India. From the rear, the device looks like the Galaxy S20. However, the back of the Samsung Galaxy A31 is made using plastic and the cameras on this device are nowhere near the Galaxy S20 cameras. Like every other mid-range A-series smartphone launched in the last few months, the device does have a great AMOLED display with a 6.4-inch screen size along with an Infinity-U style notch and an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Samsung Galaxy A31: Hardware Performance
Unlike most of the Samsung smartphones which either use a Qualcomm/Exynos chipset, the Samsung Galaxy A31 is based on the MediaTek Helio P65 SoC based on 12nm fabrication along with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and a microSD card slot for additional storage expansion. The device can easily handle regular tasks and can also play games like PUBG and COD: Mobile albeit at lower graphics settings. Do note that, the smartphone does not support Fortnite.
Samsung Galaxy A31: Camera Performance
The Samsung Galaxy A31 has a quad-camera setup at the back with a 48MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture, 5MP macro lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. These cameras can take some great pictures in day-light and low-light conditions, as the device also has an LED light. As per the video recording capability, the main camera can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps and the 20MP selfie camera also has an identical video recording capability. The camera performance of the Samsung Galaxy A31 is similar to the Galaxy M30s.
Samsung Galaxy A31: Price To Specs Ratio
The Samsung Galaxy A31 retails for Rs. 21,999 in India and it seems like a bit expensive smartphone considering the fact that the Samsung Galaxy M31 with a better processor, bigger battery, and higher resolution camera is available at a lower price tag. Do note that, Samsung always charges a bit more for the A-series smartphone, as these devices look a little better even though the overall experience remains the same. However, the Samsung Galaxy A31 does have an in-display fingerprint sensor and the Galaxy M31 have an old-school physical fingerprint sensor.
Samsung Galaxy A31: Important Features/Highlights
The Samsung Galaxy A31 runs on Android 10 OS with custom One UI 2.0 skin on top. Not just that, the device also has a 5,000 mAh battery and the phone does support 15W fast charging via the USB Type-C port. Even in terms of connectivity, the phone does support dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. When compared to a Redmi/Realme smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A31 will show fewer ads and the overall user experience will be similar to that of the high-end flagship smartphones such as the Galaxy Note 10 or the Galaxy S20.
Samsung Galaxy A31: Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy A31 is a good mid-range smartphone and it has to compete against the likes of the Galaxy M31 which is a little superior with a bigger battery and a better camera system. However, if you want features like an in-display fingerprint sensor then you have to go for the Samsung Galaxy A31.

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.
So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.
Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.
Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.
The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.
A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.
This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
